Grammy-nominated saxophonist Stacy Dillard is thrilled to announce a new collaboration with an acclaimed Canadian drummer, composer, and music director Samuel Bolduc.

Discovered by Wynton Marsalis and acclaimed by The New York Times, Dillard, 46, who was nominated for the Grammy Award in 2023, is a perfect example of the fusing of tradition and innovation. A drumming prodigy Bolduc, 25, who has dominated Canadian music scene for a decade since leading his own band Disconnected Blind to the national Emergenza victory at the age of 14, is Dillard’s new lead drummer.

The two jazz masters met in New York, where their talent and drive made them both major force in the city’s star-studded jazz scene. Dillard was hailed “one-of-a-kind musician” by the late jazz great and two time Grammy Award winner Roy Hargrove while Bolduc was hand-picked and mentored by the late Ralph Peterson—one of the best American jazz drummers of all time—and starred all over the world, including at the 2022 Montreal Jazz Festival where his performance created a sensation.

Bolduc has been working closely with Dillard, arranging parts, directing and leading the rhythm section during the saxophone virtuoso's highly prestigious artistic residency at New York’s famous Small’s Jazz Club, delivering a mesmerizing and sonically captivating experience for the audience that transcends genres. A high-in-demand drummer and music director, Bolduc himself is scheduled to start his own equally prestigious artistic residency at Boston’s legendary Wally’s Cafe Jazz Club, being the first Canadian musician to receive the coveted appointment. During his studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Bolduc had practiced drums for 12 hours a day achieving unparalleled mastery. He has been loaded by critics for becoming the closest representation of Ralph Peterson’s drumming of his generation.

“Sam’s cymbal beat is simply the best in New York,” notes Dillard. “And with his being arguably the most stylistically versatile jazz drummer of our times, I know that with him as my lead drummer and music director my new programs will be flawlessly executed.”

As the buzz grows around the two jazz masters’ powerful club performances, Dillard and Bolduc are working on their upcoming high-profile festival appearances next year. The audience anticipation is building as they plan to present all new sets at the NYC Winter Jazzfest in January 2024. One of the most prestigious jazz festivals in the country, in 2024 it will be celebrating its 20th installment sweeping New York with amazing music. Dillard’s and Bolduc’s new show is billed to be one of the festival’s most anticipated and memorable highlights.
