Tuesday, November 18, 2008 — For 30 years, the Festival International de Jazz de Montral has created an incredible array of magical moments, as captured in The Festival Under the Stars, a magnificent album specially created to celebrate three decades of passion. Through the 144 pages and hundreds of photos of this brand-new book, fans can relive and be transported anew by thousands of moments of musical pleasure the Festival has generated since its very first edition in 1980. Introduced by legendary Canadian jazzman Oliver Jones, written by Jean Franois Gayrard and distributed by Diffusion du livre Mirabel (DLM), this jazz jewel is available as of today in all the finest Quebec bookstores.

The book is a treasure trove, whether for those who were too young to hear the late, lamented Ray Charles in the opening concert of the very first edition of the Festival… or too old to realize they should have caught a young rising star named Katie Melua! It’s for those who want to recall the magic of the inexhaustible Pat Metheny, or witness the touching fragility of Melody Gardot captured on glossy paper. Those who want to recapture the legendary Miles Davis, the electrifying James Brown, the magisterial Astor Piazzola, or experience once more the shared magic of the Festival and Cirque du Soleil, immortalized in the photographer’s lens… Simply put, for those who saw it all and those who want to know it all, The Festival Under the Stars presents an impressive gallery of the finest representatives of jazz, blues and world music, from every culture, every generation, and for every passion. It’s a constellation of stars none of us can or will ever let slip from memory…

This magnificent work also owes its existence to the work of graphic artist Vincent Croteau and photographers including Denis Alix, Victor Diaz Lamich and Jean Franois Leblanc.

The Festival at the Salon du livre de Montral Autograph sessions will be held at the Salon du livre de Montral, in kiosk DLM (n 117), featuring Alain Simard, president and founder of the Festival International de Jazz de Montral (Friday, November 21, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.), as well as Andr Mnard, artistic director and cofounder, and great pianist Oliver Jones (Saturday, November 22, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.). Jazz guitarist Antoine Berthiaume will perform in duo format at both sessions.
