Veritas's Annual Evening with Friends of Charlie Parker brings together the most respected names in music to celebrate the memory of Charlie “Bird" Parker. The event was the inspiration of the late Doris Parker, and fellow Veritas Foundation members the late Max Roach, the late Milt Jackson and their friend the late Dizzy Gillespie, Jimmy Heath and Congressman Charles B. Rangel. They believed if an organization like Veritas had been available to Bird, his life may not have been cut short due to substance abuse. Each year musicians give of their time and talent to this benefit concert, the proceeds of which support the important treatment and prevention programs of Veritas.
