The Keynote Trio

The Keynote Trio plays original compilations, various Jazz styles, R & B, Blues, Bossa Nova, and has worked together playing clubs and a variety of affairs/venues around Chicago's south side and Northwest Indiana. Keynote Trio's sound is derived from a variety of influences and musical approaches, resulting in a contemporary take on a classic jazz sound, performed with refreshing clarity, romance, and soul.

The Keynote Trio plays in regular rotation at The Weather Mark Tavern 1503 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL; has performed for Jazz for Jewel-Osco Corporation, and Candid Jazz & Conversation hosted by former WNUA DJ Denise Jordan Walker.

PAUL WERNER - Piano - Paul began playing on the Chicago jazz scene as a percussionist in local clubs and bars on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago. Paul then switched over to playing the piano and bass. He spent 12 years with the Gospel Choir Grace and Glory.

After moving to Indiana, Paul played with a local group called Blues Messenger and a Reggae group, White Dove. Honing his skills in blues and R & B, Paul has performed regularly at Allgauer's restaurant in the Hilton Hotel, Northbrook, Illinois; at the Radisson Hotel's Jazz Brunch in Merrillville, Indiana; and for Studio E, Chicago Illinois. He has also performed for WGN Television Channel 9, The Taste of Chicago Fox 32’s Dinner, The DuSalble Museum, former President Jimmy Carter, former Mayor Harold Washington, and the cable TV Show “The Real McCoy”.

Paul has worked with the R & B group Smooth as Silk and the R James Group; in addition to working with Teddyie Turner jazz flutist. He continues to play with the old school bands Eleventh Avenue and the Mellow Moods both lead by Billy Shelton of the Spaniels. He has also opened for the legendary blues guitarist “Matt Murphy” and for “The Kinzey Report”.

As a composer of music Paul has written music for corporate videos, JP Roofing, a documentary, wrote the opening theme for the video production "Many are Called", and wrote music for the blues group The Kinzey Report.

Paul's passion is his jazz and he studied jazz piano under Billy Foster at Valparaiso University. He currently plays with the Keynote Trio, jazz band and plays with various other bands throughout the Chicago and Northwest Indiana areas.
