Sheila del Bosque

Born in Havana, Sheila del Bosque Fuentes is a Cuban flautist, composer and conductor. Throughout her career, del Bosque has been performing with orchestras such as the Orchestra of Lyceum Mozartiano from Havana adjunct to Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg, the National Orchestra of Cuba, and the Cuban European Youth Academy and Orchestra (Rheingau Festival 2015 Kurhaus Wiesbaden, the Young Euro Classic Festival 2017 Konzerthaus Berlin).

Sheila has played recorder, flute, and traverse baroque flute in all the major theaters and festivals in Cuba, as well as in South Korea, Mexico, Germany, and in the USA. She has played for important personalities like Pope Francis, Usher, Bon Jovi, and The Rolling Stones. In 2014 she won the first prize in the Chamber Music Competition “Musicalia". 

 

Awarded a full-tuition scholarship, del Bosque enrolled in January 2018 at Berklee College of Music, when she is currently studying a dual mayor in Performance and Film Scoring with a minor in Orchestral Conducting. At Berklee she has shared the stage with musicians such as Paquito d’Rivera, Omar Hakim, Danilo Perez, Berta Rojas, and Aida Cuevas. Sheila del Bosque quartet represented Berklee at the opening of the 49th annual Next Generation Jazz Festival in Monterey and recorded her original Si mi Isla fuese Niño and a Two Track concert for the Berklee Youtube Channel. Her music features contemporary and traditional Afro-Cuban music with the influence of European and jazz ingredients.

As a Film Composer Sheila has collaborated for the company Brave Notes as an assistant composer for movies, shorts, documentaries, and video games. She has composed original music for the Jane Goodall Institute, the short film "The Heatwave" by the director Dong-Ren, and her first featured movie, "The Unicorn" by the director Cris Hozven.

Celebrity Series of Boston Neighborhood Arts presents a series of concerts celebrating Latina bandleaders who put their own spin on traditional styles. In partnership with Ágora Cultural Architects, all four concerts take place at the Arlington Street Church in Back Bay over the course of the 2022/23 season.
