Quincy Ave Rhythm Band

The 8x DownBeat Award winning Quincy Ave Rhythm Band is part of the Commercial Music Program at the Kent Denver School in Englewood, CO. The program focuses on styles of music not traditionally taught at the secondary level including R&B, salsa, jazz, soul, pop, and Afro-Cuban. The Quincy Ave Rhythm Band has been recognized by DownBeat Magazine as one of the best high school R&B bands eight out of the last eleven years. They typically play 20-30 gigs each year throughout Colorado, and have performed in San Diego, New Orleans, Memphis, New York, and Miami. Internationally, the band has performed at the Montreux Jazz and Porretta Soul Festivals, and in 2014 were invited to perform in Havana, Cuba. In addition to performing multiple gigs throughout the year, the band also spends time recording in our studio at Kent Denver, and other studios when we’re on the road including a session at Royal Studios in Memphis (the home of Al Green) with Grammy Award winning engineer Boo Mitchell. Quincy Ave has performed with multiple artists including Jeff Coffin, Karl Hunter, Kim Dawson, Corey Christiansen, Farnell Newton, Helen de la Rosa, Kobie Watkins, Tom “Bones” Malone, Kenwood Dennard, Ruben Alvarez, Javon Jackson, and Will Kennedy, among others. The band is directed by Grammy nominated educator and proud Memphis musician Steve Holley.
