Neko

NEKO are a rock music trio from the UK who bring together huge guitar riffs, thunderous drums, dirty bass lines, and earth-shattering vocals.

Influenced by Queens of the Stone Age, Dinosaur Pile Up and Muse, Tom Brennan (vocals and guitar), Luke Knight (bass) and David Cassell (drums) formed “NEKO” while attending high school (incidentally the same high school which produced their friend Mike Kerr of Royal Blood).

The three have overcome personal tragedy and band break-ups, to emerge strong as one of the South Coast’s best and most exciting new rock bands.

Songwriting can be viewed as a sort of alchemy, a process through which a musician creates something rare and valuable -- whether personally, artistically or commercially -- out of the base materials of everyday life. Jakob Dylan's forthcoming album, Women and Country, is a glittering example, something that began with only the slightest shred of raw material, in this case, one unrecorded song he'd written, not for himself, but with Glen Campbell in mind. After Dylan played it for producer ...

The music portion of the South by Southwest industry conference and festival officially begins on Wednesday, although that starting date has become blurred in recent years.

The most-in-demand-act (sorry, Motorhead) performing on SXSW Music Eve was Jakob Dylan, as the singer/songwriter debuted his new band with Neko Case and Kelly Hogan, the Three Legs. The seven-piece group was appearing at one of the many corporate-sponsored events that run parallel to SXSW's officially sanctioned showcases.

Jakob, the son of Bob Dylan. ...

When Neko Case sings with full concentration, she often braces herself, as if for impact. Feet planted wide, knees slightly bent, she leans into a posture of preparedness.

Her arms hang at her sides, but not idly; she forms her hands almost into fists. She doesnt sway or shift. Her only movements occur from the shoulders up, as she measures the weight and potency of a drawn-out vowel, adjusting her nearness to the microphone.

Ms. Case assumed this coiled stance ...

Case and her “strays" — a half-dozen pianos in varying degrees of disrepair that she has collected sit in her Vermont barn during the recording of her latest record, Middle Cyclone.

“I wish I had a tremolo,” Neko Case said. She looked at the Samburger she was wolfing down — Samburgers and Zinburgers being the specialties of a restaurant called Zinburger, in downtown Tucson, where Case lives, for now. With their maple bacon, American cheese and Thousand Island dressing, Samburgers ...
