Introduction to Jewish-Yemenite Songs
Singing is one of the best ways to be introduced to a new language. The Yemenite-Jewish music is sung
in both Hebrew and Arabic languages consisting of letters and pronunciations that do not exist in the
English language and require an exciting new approach to vocalization. Jewish-Yemenite music also
composed of quarter tones, that requires a "re-tuning" of the ear. Yet, with these two major
differences, singing is miraculously enjoyable and conducive. Adir uses the trumpet and his own voice
to teach the songs, scales and pronunciation. He offers translations and cultural explanations to the
students.
Jewish-Yemenite Percussion
Designed for people with a musical background as well as beginners. The Darbuka drum, Tasht and the
Pah is the most widely used percussion instrument in this style. Adir is converting the style of music
usually played on these instruments to different percussion instruments mostly Latin percussion
instruments (conga, bongo, bell) as well as the drum kit. Students will learn rhythms by name and how
to switch from one rhythm to the next as well as different time signatures 4/4, 3/4, 3/8, 5/8, 6/8, 7/8
