Born in Italy in 1969. He moved to live in Portugal in 1996. Studied jazz double bass at Oporto University where he got his degree in 2006 and his master’s degree in jazz in 2011. He has a PhD degree in jazz performance by the Évora University. He worked and played with artists such as: Dave Liebman, Jean Pierre Como, Antonio Faraò, Benoît Sourisse, André Charlier, Perico Sambeat, Ferdinando Faraò, Eric Séva, Laurent Filipe, Melissa Walker, Barry Wallenstein, Fernando Tordo, Amelia Muge, Susana Félix, Alexandre Diniz, Jacinta & Michael Bluenstein, Ricardo Pinheiro, Ala dos Namorados, Fiçcões, Joel Xavier e Didier Lockwood, Politonia, João Luzio, Mafalda Arnauth, Mafalda Veiga e João Pedro Pais, Alexandre Frazão, Mário Delgado, Bruno Santos and Jorge Moniz among others. His Cd “Varandas do Chiado”, with original composition, has been published in 2012. He is part of The European New Quintet, the Liebman/Laginha/Ineke/Cavalli/Pinheiro Quintet, the project “Cinema&Dintorni” and the acoustic world music project “Latitude Quatro”. In 2018 released the CD “Triplicity” in trio with master drummer Eric Ineke and Portuguese guitarist Ricardo Pinheiro. In 2019 released the CD of the New West Quartet with fellow musicians John Gunther on sax, Ricardo Pinheiro on guitar, Bruno Pedroso on drums and Mike del Ferro on piano as special guest. On 5th of February 2021 was released the new record of Pinheiro/Ineke/Cavalli Trio – Turn Out the Stars – The Music of Bill Evans for the Challenge Records label. Currently, he is head of the Jazz and Modern Music department at the Lusíada University in Lisbon where he teaches also electric bass, double bass, jazz combo, improvisation and introduction to the study of popular music.
Much has been written about pianist Bill Evans and the influence he had on the development of new piano voices following his emergence in the 1950s. Evans infused his style with eloquent lyricism, coupled with harmonic transpositions and modal improvisations, all of which lead to an easily recognizable sound. It should be no surprise that his compositions carried these same hallmarks.
