Sergey Dolzhenkov Quintet

Sergey Dolzhenkov Quintet is a vivid evidence of the fact that there are no rigid stylistic boundaries in contemporary music for a long time. Trombonist Sergey Dolzhenkov, who grew up on the works of The Prodigy and Brecker Brothers, confidently breaks traditional stereotypes of perception, using unusual techniques of sound production, bringing musical structures to traditional jazz-rock fusion that are characteristic of other styles such as hip-hop and drum&bass.

Any listener, even if in a jazz club for the first time, will be impressed by the power of energy, rich sound and dedication of the musicians of the Sergey Dolzhenkov Quintet. “To enjoy music, you don't have to know it, you can just feel it,” says the leader.

The collaboration with Igor Butman became a landmark for the young trombonist. The renowned band leader started his career as a musician by inviting him to Moscow Jazz Orchestra, with which Sergey performed at many festivals throughout Russia and abroad. Most of the members of the Quintet are also members of Butman's big band.

The first successes came to a new ensemble on the banks of the Neva river, in St. Petersburg. The quintet first presented itself in November 2017, performing at the international jazz forum Jazz Across Borders, and in the spring of 2018 participated in the International Jazz Day celebration.

"Rebirth", the Quintet's debut work, was released in 2020. This program was formed over four years. Knitted in a modern fusion style, the album received excellent press and was warmly received by the audience. The basis of the current concert program of the Quintet is the material of that album - author's pieces by Sergey Dolzhenkov, as well as arrangements of the fusion classics of the 1960s (“Little Sunflower” by Freddie Hubbard, “Speak No Evil” and “Witch Hunt” by Wayne Shorter), taken from the perspective of today.

Current line-up includes: Sergey Dolzhenkov (trombone), Evgeny Pobozhiy (guitar), Slava Bystrov (piano), Anton Davidyants (bass), Alexander Kulkov (drums)
