Lorenzo Cellupica

Lorenzo Cellupica was born in 1992 in Frosinone (Italy). He’s a pianist, keyboardist, composer and music teacher from Isola del Liri (Frosinone). He began to study at a local music school and carried on his own from the age of 13 till 25. His studies ranged from classical music to jazz, from rock to pop. In 2011 he won a contest for emerging bands in Alvito (FR) called Non solo Jazz (“Not Only Jazz”) with his band Yellowcake. In 2015 he was chosen as the best musicians by the newspaper TG24 for partecipating at a contest organised by the music school Industrie Sonore in Isola del Liri, where he played some original compositions for piano solo. In 2017 the French label Musea Records published the omonymous debut album of his band Möbius Strip, an instrumental jazz and progressive quartet. All the tracks were composed by Lorenzo Cellupica, who also wrote most of the arrangements. The album has been reviewed and appreciated by important musical magazines, both from Italy (Prog Italia, Classic Rock Italia, Rockerilla, Raropiù, Hamelin Prog, Arlequins etc.) and abroad (All About Jazz, Progression Magazine, ProGGnosis, Jazz in Europe, DPRP, etc.) and it has also been broadcast by radios from all over the world. From 2017 to 2019 Möbius Strip played in several festivals and clubs, like: Pozzuoli Jazz Festival, Jazzit Festival (Pompei), Stazione Birra (Roma), Defrag (Roma), Lo Sciamano (Roma), La Casa di Alex (Milano) and many others. Also, in 2018 the band performed at Reggies in Chicago for the Progtoberfest Festival as the opening band for Soft Machine and then in other clubs in Illinois and Wisconsin. In 2017 he got a degree in Energy Engineering at the University of Tor Vergata in Rome and enrolled at the Music Conservatory L.Refice in Frosinone, where he got a honour degree with a thesis on Thelonious Monk in 2020. In 2021 the AltRock Records released the second Möbius Strip album called Time Lag, distributed by Ma.Ra.Cash Records, which has also been appreciated by several critics. In the same year Lorenzo attended the summer seminars of Siena Jazz. In 2022 Lorenzo Cellupica won the award Rotary Club Frosinone L’eccellenza della musica italiana (“the excellence of Italian Music”), A.A. 2021/2022 – XXI Edizione for the jazz area together with Francesco Curcio. In July he played at the Anagni Jazz Fest with Refice Jazz Ensemble lead by Filiberto Palermini. In August he played in piano solo in Sestu (CA) at the festival In Progress…One.
