Liz Childs
Born and raised in New York City, Liz began her jazz education at Antioch College studying flute with a member of the Cecil Tylor ensemble, in residence at Antioch. After winning a scholarship to study voice at
Hunter College, Liz moved back to her home town were she had the good fortune to study with jazz greats; pianist Don Friedman, bassist Milt Hinton, and trumpeters Buck Clayton and Jon Faddis.
After graduating from Hunter with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Vocal Performance, Liz performed for several years all over New England, playing and singing everywhere from the Sagamore Hotel in the Adirondacks, to the race track in Saratoga Springs, to the Deer Isle Lupine Festival in Maine.
Liz won a scholarship to study singing at the Eugene O'Neill Cabaret Symposium in New London, Connecticut, where she met and worked with Margaret Whiting and Sylvia Syms. In the years since then, Liz has played extended engagements in Manhattan, the Hamptons, Atlantic City, Saratoga Springs, and most recently, for three years in St. Barthelemy, in the French West Indies.
Liz currently lives in Manhattan and northwest Connecticut, and has just a released a new CD, Oh, You Crazy Moon.
