Lisa Hoppe

Lisa Hoppe (*1988 near Bremen, Germany) is a double bassist, composer, improvisor, band-leader and educator. Her musical works contain a variety of genres and non-genres: Ranging between modern chamber music, free improvisation and avant-garde electro, she is always striving to put the melodic qualities of the double bass into contemporary context. She studied bass and composition in Bremen (GER) and Bern (CH) and currently divides her time between Brooklyn, New York City, and Hamburg, Germany.

As the co-leader of the collective trios Me&Mobi and Esche she has released various albums and is touring venues and festivals all over Europe, such as XJAZZ Berlin, Aarhus Jazz Festival, CCS Paris, Vortex London, Moods Zürich, Cully Jazz Festival.

In 2018 Lisa Hoppe formed her own project, the multi-national ensemble Lisa Hoppe’s Third Reality (USA/ISR/GER), which debut release The Mighty Unlikely was included in the Best Of 2019 list of The New York City Jazz Record.

Furthermore she works and has worked with Rich Perry, Tyshawn Sorey, Ben Monder, Rudresh Mahantappa, So Percussion, Chern Hwei Fung, Dmitri Tymoczko, Jessica Pavone, Samantha Boshnack, Ryan Truesdell, Devin Grey, Tal Yahalom, David Leon, Gaya Feldheim Schorr, Louna Dekker Vargas, Aaron Edgcomb, Nick Dunston, Philipp Gropper, Bernhard Bamert, Daniel Weber, Phelan Burgoyne, Emanuele Maniscalco, Laura Schuler, Luzius Schuler, Philipp Schlotter, Fred Bürki and Marena Whitcher.

She received awards and scholarships from: NYFA Immigrant Artist Mentorship (2019), Banff Centre For Arts And Creativity Scholarship (2018), Composition Grant of the Federal State of Lower Saxony (2017), Nominated with Me&Mobi for Jazz-Prize Bremen (2016), Finalist of ZKB-Jazz-Prize with Me&Mobi (2015), Scholarship of Siena Jazz (2012).
