Joseph Branciforte

As engineer/producer, he has worked on over 100 releases for some of the most well-respected names in the NYC creative jazz scene including Ben Monder, Vijay Iyer, Tim Berne, Mark Dresser, Nels Cline, Tyshawn Sorey, Dan Weiss, Tom Rainey, Matt Mitchell, Jen Shyu, and many others. His work can be heard on ECM Records, Sunnyside Records, Pi Recordings, Cryptogramophone, Fresh Sound, and Clean Feed.

He co-leads, composes for, and play drums in THE CELLAR AND POINT, a "garage-chamber" septet formed in 2010. John Schaefer, host of WNYC's Soundcheck and New Sounds, described the group's sound as "post-everything. The Cellar and Point... use acoustic instruments and electronics to create a sound that is winningly melodic, thoughtful in its balance, groove-heavy, sometimes glitchy, and delightfully unpredictable as the septet straddles all kinds of genres." The group’s debut record, Ambit, also produced, engineered, and mixed by Branciforte, was released on Cuneiform Records in October 2014, All Music Guide has called Ambit “one of 2014's finest albums of challenging, engaging, and genre-defying contemporary music”, while BBC Radio commented on its sonic merits: “It’s really, really well-engineered. Beautifully produced. Sonically, it's a fantastic record... well worth your listening on headphones.”
