Hristo Goleminov

Hristo Goleminov (1997) is a saxophonist, composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Amsterdam (NL). His interests include free improvisation, researching composition in the 17th/18th centuries, dense contrapuntal writing, improvising/composing over poetry, and more.

He’s currently working together with BIMHUIS Productions (Amsterdam) as a Nieuwe-Maker, researching baroque music, improvisation and composition. His new octet debuted in June 2022 at the BIMHUIS, and an album is in the works.

He also shares a duo with Vera Morais (voice) focused on exploring the lines between poetry and improvisation. Their album 'Consider the Plums' was released in September 2022 under the Portuguese label Carimbo Porta-Jazz.

He studied classical saxophone in EPME (Espinho, Portugal) and later in ESMAE (Porto, Portugal) with Henk van Twillert and Gilberto Bernardes, where he obtained bachelor and master’s degrees. He studied jazz with Manuel Marques as a teenager, and later at Conservatorium van Amsterdam (NL) with Jasper Blom and Ben van Gelder, also obtaining bachelor and master’s degrees.
