Holger Jetter

Holger Jetter started playing the violin at the age of 6. He studied western classical music, principal instrument violin, at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria. Further studies with Lynn Blakeslee and Jean-Jacques Kantoroff, completed his classical violin education. At the age of 18 he released a first recording with a German rock band. His broad musical interests manifested in many band projects in various styles such as Bluegrass, Argentinean tango and Klezmer music. Holger's strong affinity to improvised music led to the formation of the „Modern String Quartet“. Fresh sounding original compositions and string arrangements contributed to the wide success of this ensemble playing over 1000 concerts in less then six years. This string quartet toured also with renowned musicians such as Joan Baez, Mercedes Sosa, and Constantin Wecker. In this period Holger intensified his activities as composer und produced music for audio books and for small movies. After their first America tour he left the Modern String Quartet and went to Kolkata, India, to study Indian classical music with Ustad Imrat Khan. During the last 15 years Holger has mainly focused on jazz and Indian fusion music and on audio-visual art projects. With his 6-string electric violin he combines the functionality of a bassist with the creative drive of a jazz player while unfolding enchanting melodies with the depth of a classical violinist. He has been touring internationally with several of his groups. Presently he travels between India, Europe and the United States, working in different set-ups with renowned musicians of the respective jazz scenes. His latest international projects include a duo album with Steve Rudolph (Harrisburg, U.S.A.), a quartet recording with a band from Berlin (Germany), a recording of an Indian fusion album with Indian classical artists from Kolkata and his multimedia solo show series “Soul Spaces”.
