Great Aunt Ruth and the Saucy Cats
The one who was dreaming music shared her first musical sketches with the other, who was living music. He became her friend and teacher. Great Aunt Ruth & the Saucy Cats was born from their dreams and friendship.
Shortly after a recording session in 2015, Great Aunt Ruth & the Saucy Cats experienced a great loss, the untimely death of Joel Scott. He had given the dreamer—Kathryn Joy—her start.
But he left her in the hands of a cadre of good friends—all stellar, experienced musicians and mentors. One of these men—Rahn Coleman—became her new producer. In their care, she continues to grow as a recording artist.
Kathryn Joy, the composer, vocalist and spirit behind Great Aunt Ruth & the Saucy Cats, conveys her big ideas in small bites and leaves her listeners wanting more… She is an intriguing songwriter who mixes her mischievous thought process with disarming candor. Original and iconoclastic, she shares honest and playful feelings from her own life experience, and she does so with rare sweetness. Listeners looking for love, wonder, adventure, and nostalgia will enjoy her lyrics for their beauty, good humor, and subtlety of expression.
Rahn Coleman, an award winning producer and well-known performance coach, who is legendary for bringing the best out of his artists. He is a bigger-than-life presence, who has made his own significant impact on Kathryn’s life and on her music. He’s a big-hearted man with an uncanny grasp of human nature, drama, and full musical orchestration. As he connects Kathryn’s voice to her emotions and her lyrics, his arrangements unveil her feelings in profound, varied, and spectacular ways.
The band’s music can described as inventive, poly-ethnic and harmonious, strongly influenced by Cuban rhythms and jazz. It is always original and worth listening to the lyrics.
