Ethan Ostrow

Ethan's love for music began as a child, when his uncle introduced him to the music of Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and Amy Winehouse, among others. They would ride in his uncle's convertible blasting soul music. These incredible grooves and melodies have stuck with Ethan to this day.

In 8th grade Ethan's first teacher, Max Cowan, turned him onto jazz, introducing him to the album Testifyin' by pianist Benny Green. This swinging record, featuring Christian McBride and Carl Allen, got Ethan hooked.

Like Benny Green, Ethan went on to attend Berkeley High School in California. Although Ethan focused on acting through high school, he always found time to play in the legendary Berkeley High Jazz big bands, and his quartet "House of Ramen." Ethan also began experimenting with composition in high school, workshopping tunes and beginning to find his artistic voice.

After living briefly in Minneapolis, Ethan moved to New York City to attend the Manhattan School of Music. Out of high school, Ethan also discovered his passion for cancer charity work, and has made volunteering and fundraising an integral part of his life. Ethan created and produced Concert for a Cure at Yoshi's Oakland, and is proud to have raised over $55,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society over the concert's four years.

Ethan also produces concerts professionally, having worked on the production teams for WBGO Radio (Jazz Night in America), and the Office of the Mayor's Rise Up NYC concert series. He is the Deputy Director of Make Music New York, NYC's free, outdoor music festival for the people, by the people.

Ethan also served as legendary saxophonist Dayna Stephens' booking agent and tour manager for many years.

Ethan holds a BM in Jazz Piano from the Manhattan School of Music.
