Bereket Abebe

Bereket Abebe, born in 1997, is a highly accomplished jazz bassist known for his funk, slap, and melodic playing style. Originally from Ethiopia, Bereket grew up surrounded by a rich church musical center, which heavily influenced his passion for jazz.

From a young age, Bereket was drawn to the deep, resonant sound of the bass and began learning the instrument in his early teens. He quickly excelled, impressing local musicians with his natural talent and ability to effortlessly hold down the rhythm section.

In his early twenties, Bereket moved to Addis Ababa City to pursue a career in jazz. He immersed himself in the city's vibrant jazz scene and began collaborating with some of the finest musicians in the genre. His intricate yet groovy bass lines became sought after, and he soon found himself in high demand for live performances and recording sessions.

Bereket has had the privilege of sharing the stage with renowned Ethiopian Jazz Bands and artists such as Jazbyssinia, Kayn Lab, Mesob (Ethio Jazz Traditional Band) and Jazz artists Jonovan Cooper, Girum Mezmur, Endalkachew and Abi, respectively. And as well as performing at prestigious jazz centers at African Jazz village, Fendika Cultural Center, British Council Addis Ababa and German Embassy school international Jazz festivals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His ability to adapt to various jazz subgenres, from bebop to swing to modern fusion, demonstrates his versatility and musical maturity.

In addition to his role as a bassist, Bereket is also an accomplished composer, arranger and has released one album, titled Three World. His compositions often showcase his love for harmonic complexity and rhythmic innovation while still maintaining a deep respect for the tradition of jazz.

Throughout his career, Bereket has received critical acclaim for his contributions to the jazz community. His warm tone, impeccable technique, and ability to create memorable musical dialogues make him a standout performer in the Ethio-jazz genre.

Today, Bereket Abebe continues to evolve as a Jazz artist, exploring new musical territories. Whether performing live, recording in the studio, or composing original music, his commitment to excellence and his deep love for jazz always shine through.
