Andrew Basa

Violinist and Bassist Andrew Basa is highly regarded in the Chicagoland area for his musical versatility. Currently the bassist for the Stardust Big Band, he is the Deputy Concertmaster of the City Symphony of Chicago, first violinist of the Wheaton Symphony Orchestra, and a founding member of the Basa String Quartet. In addition to collaborating with Samuel Magad and the Chicago Symphony Chamber Players in 2004 and 2006, he has performed with the Chicago Philharmonia, the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, the Grandstand Big Band, Ron Smolen and his Ballroom Dance Orchestra and the Dave Roberts Swingtet. Mr. Basa has played at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall, the Chicago Theater, Arie Crown Theater, the Jazz Showcase, and at London’s Royal Albert Hall. He has shared the stage with such artists as William Warfield, Leonard Sorkin, Sir David Willcocks and jazz great Louis Bellson. Also an accomplished violist, Mr. Basa studied with Donna Dehnert, Jessica Buchtel, Vivian Sweet, and Vincent Skowronski. At the University of Illinois at Chicago, he studied under Richard Wang and Theodore Edel. Mr. Basa has recorded for the Gumption Records label and has broadcast from the WFMT and WBEZ studios.
