Alvaro Rojas
As a composer, Alvaro has had his works performed by many of Canada’s finest new music groups, including the Turning Point Ensemble, Aventa Ensemble and the Microcosmos String Quartet. He has written music for choir, big band, orchestra and various chamber groups, and has scored 15 short films. His passion for many types of music is synthesized in the trio’s recent recording, Gala, which brings a broad range of influences together in the familiar guitar/bass/drums trio setting. From free improv to fully through composed studio creations; jazz, surf, rock, and influences all speak together in a style that sounds like Nels Cline meets Zappa.
