Todd Mosby

TODD MOSBY: Award winning jazz guitarist/composer from the midwest with folk rock and Indian raag influences.

About Me

Instrumental composer, songwriter, and Imrat guitar innovator Todd Mosby is a storyteller and a landscape artist. He uses the guitar to whisk listeners away to a borderless realm where jazz, jazz fusion, North Indian classical, classical composition, bluegrass, bossa-nova, and folk-rock create transporting and transformative experiences. His latest album, Land Of Enchantment, is a gorgeous scrapbook of the visual, emotive, spiritual and cultural interactions Todd has personally experienced within the New Mexico region of the United States.

Todd’s compositions feature strong melodies, sometimes sung by female vocalists
recalling the aesthetic of Brazilian musician Sérgio Mendes; virtuosic but lyrical instrumental prowess; deep-pocket grooves informed by a variety of jazz, world, and rock-based traditions; and a deep sense of spiritual intent. After decades as a professional musician with countless gigs under his belt, and rarely-achieved mastery of 3 challenging musical idioms.

My Jazz Story

Why do I love jazz: Jazz is a living music of the moment in the moment. Very existential, very contemporary and very much reliant on an ability to lift an audience. Yet the level of expression and composition is directly reflected in ones understanding of harmony and melody, technical mastery on an instrument and the ability to tell a musical story. Music is universal in its expression of emotion but not so much as the expression of universal language.

My House Concert Story

July 22, 2023… Bonfire Beach Concert. Blue Horizons Band featuring Todd Mosby-guitars, Feyza Eren-vocals, Steve Davis-drums, Rod Row-keyboards, Ben Coan-bass. Beautiful evening under starlit skies in the middle of the woods in St. Louis County. Temps perfect, beautifully lit stage especially when the bonfire got going. We had excellent sound and sound man delivering music to a sold out house concert (60+ audience) all sitting on a huge man made beach area. People brought lawn chairs, snacks and set up propane camping kitchens. There was an outside bar area to set up BYO food and drinks. The beautiful sound of tree frogs provide a sonic pallet to retreat to between songs and sets. They were listening, interacting and singing in unison during the pin drop moments and especially when Mosby opened the second set with two solo Acoustic Guitar compositions. A beautiful interaction of music and nature. Virtuoso Band with world class artists performed a mix of Mosby’s award winning music along wt tracks from then new album “Land of Enchantment” and intermixed with strategically placed Sergio Mendes and Flora Purim songs from her Return to Forever days. Last set, host joined in and we covered some country rock tunes from Poco, The Band and Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Audience much appreciated the musical broad spectrum especially those new to instrumental music. With a musical thru line based on Mosby’s personal experience, roots and deep understanding of putting sets together that impact audiences and create moments, the evening was a solid success. Everyone in the audience left feeling good and changed, emotionally and spiritually at some level. In addition to normal fees, if the love donation offering was any indication of audience approval, the Blue Horizons Band did what musicians are created to do and offered a beautiful musical service to those in attendance.
