Thisbe Vos
I write and sing original jazz songs in a classic jazz style
About Me
Thisbe Vos is a Dutch jazz singer and songwriter living in Los Angeles. With songs that sound like the traditional classics
from the 40s and 50s, she is one of the bright new voices that is contributing to the revival of romanticism in jazz in the 21st
century. Her fans say that they love her unique, clear voice that reminds them of Doris Day and Peggy Lee. Critics hail her
songwriting as “the real thing,” likening her work to that of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin.
Thisbe grew up in a small town close to Amsterdam. At the age of 17 she joined the UK's No 1 swing band The Jive Aces
as their first female singer and toured with them for three years, visiting 80 cities in Europe and the United States before the
age of 21.
She started writing her own songs after listening to hundreds of hours of classic jazz in the touring van, including recordings
by Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington and Peggy Lee.
She moved to Los Angeles in 2008 and recorded a solo album of standards and originals on her own record label, Prime
Productions. Upon its release, she quickly garnered a sizeable fanbase online and subsequenly crowdfunded and released
another four albums.
She has won several music awards, including Jazz Song of the Year and Holiday Album of the Year from the
International Music & Entertainment Association, and an honorable mention from the International Songwriting
Competition. She was a finalist in the Great American Song Contest of 2015.
Her original songs have been featured in primetime TV shows like “Bull,” “The Catch” and “The Blacklist” on ABC, NBC and
CBS, as well as in shows and movies on premium streaming services like Disney+ and The Hallmark Channel. Her music
has received airplay on over 230 traditional jazz radio stations in the US and Canada, as well as on the Sirius XM Real Jazz
Channel.
In recent years, Thisbe has performed in venues around Southern California including as a guest artist at The Lighthouse in
Hermosa Beach, at the Cicada Club and at the Sweet & Hot Jazz Festival in Los Angeles, and at Bayside Restaurant in
Newport Beach. For two years, she performed weeky with her own band at the Marriott Hotel in Woodland Hills.
Thisbe has taken a break from performing since 2020 but continues to write and record songs—her latest album
Renaissance In Blue released on Prime Productions in 2021.
My Jazz Story
I love jazz! My favorite singer is Ella Fitzgerald. When I feel bad, I listen to two minutes of Ella Fitzgerald and I am ready to continue my day. That's what I aim to do for others when I write and sing new songs in the traditional jazz style.
