Louise Isackson

Louise displays a passionate voice, steeped in jazz tradition, yet bursting with fresh ideas.

About Me

Louise Isackson, Jazz vocalist, musician and fine artist is at a glance captivating, tall with pretty green eyes and beautiful long blonde hair, but beneath her Scandinavian beauty lives a passion for excellence.

Isackson is an accomplished Jazz vocalist; currently living in Brisbane, Australia. After launching of her debut CD entitled 'Feels Right' in 2008, she has lived and performed in New York and Melbourne. “Experiencing life in these two cities has given me a solid foundation for exploring my original compositions, through the discipline of listening to and playing Jazz”.

Early this year she returned back to her home town of Brisbane to work on a new album of original material (due for release in the coming year). She performs a stylish mix of Jazz standards and originals with her trio band (Vocals, piano or guitar, and Bass)

Born in Sydney and raised in Brisbane, Louise comes from a musical family, nourished by the culture of a classical music education, american jazz standards and show tunes. She started her music education learning piano at age 5 and her earliest music memories were seeing live theatre, ballets, operas and shows and watching her parents singing and playing piano together. By her teenage years, Louise found herself immersed in the art world at the Queensland College of Art, whilst also studying vocals at the Brisbane Conservatorium of Music.

She sang and played keyboard regularly in Brisbane rock/pop bands and duos - exploring all angles of musical expression. Her vocal training ranged from choral classical leading into jazz and contemporary styles. Performing regularly in gigs throughout Brisbane lead to her being offered a six month contract singing Jazz in Japan.

“Whilst leaning on the classics of American Jazz standards of Gershwin, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin, I like to take on a variety of musical ideas, in my Jazz repertoire. My original songs fall into the genre of smooth jazz/pop, with some sound elements of soft rock and country. As a trio we perform great swing standards, whilst interpreting modern songs by artists such as Sting, Michael Franks, Billy Joel, and Jimmy Hendriks. I enjoy exploring what a band can do with rhythm, tempo, or simply creating a sultry mood with all kinds of songs.”

FEELS RIGHT CD – Recorded in Brisbane 2008 The release of her debut album Louise assembled an all Brisbane based rythmn section, hand picked from the Brisbane Jazz scene with Steve Newcomb on piano, Peter Walters on Bass, Dave McGuire on guitar and John Parker on drums.

Louise is inspired vocally by many classic Jazz performers: Nina Simone, Blossom Deary, Peggy Lee and Anita O’Day, plus many non-Jazz artists such as singer/songwriter Paula Cole, Nora Jones and country singer Alison Krauss. She is also inspired by many famous Australian artists such as Kate Ceberano, James Morrison and Vince Jones.
