Lauren Lark

Vocalist

About Me

Lauren’s vocal ability stems from her love and passion that she carries for her native Philadelphia influences. She is a scat singer at heart. Reginald Pindell, mentored and trained her in the artistry of classical, Broadway and many other techniques of the vocal culture at Philadelphia’s University of the Arts where she received her BA In music performance. Lauren has had the opportunity to perform in her native city of Philadelphia with such accomplished artists and groups as The Philly Pops, Gerald Veasley, Tyrone Brown and Christian McBride. She created The Outback Jazz Festival in 2006 and is in the works for her second go as festival leader in the near future.

While a band-leader and front woman for The Lauren Lark Quartet and Big Band Lauren making moves and is graduating to composer and songwriter with her upcoming sophomore album. Lauren's upcoming album pays homage to her Philly roots by diversifying the sound of jazz once again. Included is not only a new perspective on scat singing and jazz, but this album infuses the talents and production styles of music minds James Solomon and Alfred Politte. She is also expecting a new album release as a guest with “the world’s most recorded drummer” Bernard “Pretty” Purdie.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because...it's a musical language that loved me first. When I first heard jazz and began to try and replicate it myself, it was such a feeling of wonder, excitement and creativity. It's a high I still chase. I was first exposed to jazz...when I was high school. I used to get cd's from the local super market (if you can believe it) and one the fist I ever heard was Frank Sinatra I met Quincy Jones(who we all know is Fr**k'in legend), he was one of the most polite and interesting people I have ever met. He was encouraging and seemed genuinely engaged in hearing about my musical ideas. I met him when I competed and won an award for Black Caucus Spousal Award Fund The best show I ever attended was...Airto and Flora at the Annenberg Theater here in Philly, doing takes from Seeds on The Ground. AMAZING ENERGY!!! The first jazz record I bought was...a Frank Sinatra Compilation CD My advice to new listeners...Keep Listening! Listen to others and listen to yourself. Don't compare, just be aware. Every musician has a different God given gift.
