Justin Richey
About Me
Justin Richey is an accomplished young lion based in the Boston and New York Music
Scene. Specializing in Jazz, Rock n’ Roll, Country, Blues, and Chamber Music, Justin Richey
has made a striking first impression at such a young age. Playing with Saxaphone legend
Phil Woods, World Renowned Educator and Pianist Shelly Berg, and Grammy Nominee Patti
Austin at the age of only 17, Justin has been a rising star in the music business. In 2012,
Justin graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Professional Music BMA in
Performance and Music Business.
While at Berklee, Justin received many scholastic awards and scholarships for
outstanding performance in, and outside of the classroom. He represented Berklee on a
North American Scholarship Tour as one of the Berklee College of Music All-Stars at
Beaches International Jazz Festival in Toronto, Canada, as well as two Norwegian Tours
under the direction of Berklee and Renowned Clarinetist Extraordinaire Felix Peikli.
In 2010, Justin began working briefly with Berklee City Music, an urban outreach
program, specializing in after school arts programs. There he taught privately to
elementary and junior high bass students.
Now as Berklee College of Music Graduate, Justin teaches privates to students of all
ages and all ranges of ability. He also manages his own groups that perform regularly in
the greater Boston area. Frequently, he perform as freelance musician, and has played
under the direction of such extraordinary band leaders as Greg Osby, Grace Kelly, Jason
Palmer, Darren Barrett, Rich DiMare, Hailey Niswanger, Felix Peikli, Doug Johnson and many
more.
In 2012, The Daydream, a group led by Justin Richey, released its debut EP. This not
only was his first release as a bandleader, but also his debut as co-producer. His creativity
in the music business led him to design a distribution plan involving an array of much
more diverse merchandise, including Custom T-Shirt, Posters, and Download Cards for less
than the cost of manufacturing a hard copy CD.

My Jazz Story
Jazz came to me after long and hard Rock n' Roll upbring. Dingy club shows, relentless rehearsal, only to not allowed in most bars, all by the age of 15. I was advancing quickly as a musician, and start looking for music that was pushing the envelope. First, I discovered heavy metal music. The music was technically demanding, energetic, well composed with meter changes, big phat grooves, and audience like no other. By the end of High School, College became the hot topic of everyone. I realized I had no skills, other than playing Guitar and Bass. My Brother, now Brooklyn based Jazz Guitarist and Educator, began excelling in our High School's Jazz Band. Which, was one of the top Jazz Schools in the country. I decided that I should try Upright bass. Sure enough, they needed one, and began finding myself excelling quickly in this new scene I knew nothing about. Later I received a Scholarship to Berklee College of Music, and the rest is History
