About Me

Jorge Shy , composer and guitarist from São Paulo , Brazil , started His career during the 80’s in Rio when very young he formed along with the famous bazilian songwriter Leoni the band “Herois da Resistência” . With that group they sold many records and were able to tour the whole country , Europe and the USA . The band was produced by Liminha (Gilberto Gil , Milton Nascimento ,Bebel Gilberto) . After leaving the group he went to live in Boston and graduated at Berklee in Jazz composition and film scoring . During the Berklee years he has played in many diffrent projects from brazilian , jazz , World music and blues . Always searching for a especific voice to his music and mixing diffrent influences was always an important issue . Jobim , Bill Frisell , Toninho Horta , Pat Metheny and Bill Evans were always strong influences . With a solid career in Brazil , Shy is an important educator in the country and takes fundamental part when introducing Jazz and Braziian music to a future generation

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because is the kind of music that reflects freedom I was first exposed to jazz when i was a kid listening to Louis Armstrong and Ella I met Mike Stern In Rio in 1993 for an interview ..i freelanced for a magazine at that time The best show I ever attended was ..hard , there were so many ! The first jazz record I bought was "Kind of Blue" My advice to new listeners try to listen to all styles of jazz Or whatever else you have in mind .
