I was first exposed to jazz through my old man who was innocuously playing an "Essential" Dave Brubeck compilation and I just happen to walk through his den while 'Blue Rondo A La Turk' was kicking off. I must've been about 10 and hadn't heard anything like it and was instantly mesmerized. Stole/borrowed the whole album and slowly started devouring his entire collection of the following months and years before starting my own collection which grows to this day, some 30 years later! I now run an independent record label called 4000 Records which focuses on local artists.
