About Me
John Palmer is president of MEGAWAVE (small label – big sound), part
of an independent
media company he founded in 1972. He received his fine arts education
at the Corcoran
School of Art, studied under Jack Perlmutter in Washington, D.C., and
went on to study a
number of different disciplines at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor,
where he
received bachelor and law degrees.
He has served as a special university teaching assistant for an
alternative futures program,
worked as an artist, photographer, musician (electric bass, keyboards,
wind synthesizer),
recording engineer, producer, mastering engineer, environmental design
and planning
consultant, and operated a wholesale and retail sales and electronics
business. His
volunteer and public service activities have been extensive, and John
served a number of
years in state government administering workforce development
programs.
After years as a regional label supporting artist venue sales,
MEGAWAVE secured national
distribution in 2007 and was honored to have one of that year’s releases
receive a
Grammy® nomination for Best Reggae Album (The End of an American
Dream by the
legendary Lee Scratch Perry). It has since gone on to garner a
second Grammy nomination in the same category for 2010's
Revelation.
Based in Lansing, Michigan, MEGAWAVE specializes in jazz, world,
reggae, and piano blues
music. It is distributed in North America by MVD Entertainment Group,
in Europe by Music
Alliance Membran GmbH, and digitally worldwide by Independent Online
Distribution
Alliance (IODA).
