Dimitar Bodurov
A Bulgarian pianist / composer / producer resided in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
About Me
Bulgarian jazz pianist and composer Dimitar Bodurov (1979) shaped an authentic musical signature,
combining his solid background in jazz improvisation and classical composition with his love for
folklore and electronica.
Since 2000, Dimitar has been residing in Amsterdam (NL). He has been actively performing
throughout the Netherlands and Europe playing solo, with his BODUROV TRIO, and various projects
as a leader and guest.
Bodurov has received several jazz awards, the most recent of which is a mention at the Martial Solal
Jazz Solo Piano Competition in Paris (2010).
Dimitar has released more than 15 CD and digital albums as a leader, collaborator, and guest for
Dutch and Norwegian labels, as well as for his own Optomusic label founded in 2010.
As a composer, Bodurov has written mostly chamber works, as well as music for theater and dance
productions.
In 2012 Dimitar composed the music for LILITH, a multi-disciplinary opera by the renowned American
soprano Claron McFadden. Some recent works from 2021 include his composition Inner voices, for
trombone, string quartet, and electronica, commissioned by the renowned trombone player Jörgen van
Rijen and Alma string quartet. In August 2021 took place the premiere of REFLECTOR - a post-
pandemic opera for trumpet, piano, chamber strings, and electronica based on short videos from
people, reflecting on their experiences during the pandemic.
In 2010, Bodurov founded his own label OPTOMUSIC, for which he has recorded and produced
albums with celebrated Bulgarian kaval player Theodosii Spassov, American saxophone player
Michael Moore, Indian percussionist Sandip Bhattacharya, Ivan Shopov, and others.
Dimitar has worked with musicians such as Trygve Seim, Randy Brecker, Alex Sipiagin, Rick Margitza,
Didier Lockwood, and others.
Since 2013, Dimitar has become a co-founder and artistic director of Radar Festival in his home town
Varna, Bulgaria.
