Corey C. Cook

About Me

Corey Cook is perhaps among the brightest emerging musicians in America today. While currently holding residence in New York City, Corey Cook is affiliated with national organizations such as The Percussive Arts Society, The American Federation of Musicians (Local 802), and The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Corey Cook has collaborated with alumni of world-renowned & historic ensembles such as The JALC, Jon Faddis, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Buddy Rich, & Woody Herman Orchestras, and has organized & conducted sessions with musicians such as Chris Crenshaw, Harold Zinno, Jr., Ganze Mueller Jonas, Mike Rivett, Peter Anderson, Paul Nedzela, Paul Odeh, Rick Stone, and Phil Palombi. Corey Cook has been advocated by Ashwood Kavanna, whose clients have included Miles Davis, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, and many others, and has received honorary nominations to attend The National Young Leaders Conference, The Global Young Leaders Conference, The International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP) Delegation on Diplomacy & International Relations, The 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards, and The Presidential Inauguration.

The ensembles in which Corey Cook has performed as a percussionist represent what is likely the ubiquitous spectrum of American musical expression. Equally effective in a wide variety of contexts as an accompanist, Corey Cook quintessentially represents the modern image of a percussionist not only being a solo technician, but a versatile artist capable of supporting and enhancing a wide range of ensembles which have included concert orchestras, marching bands, church vocal groups, and jazz bands in New Orleans, Michigan, and Manhattan. Aside from his endeavors as a leader in New York, Corey Cook has collaborated extensively with a multitude of ensembles related predominantly to the field of education, including positions in academic ensembles which have been admitted to state and regional music festivals.

A landmark recording session exhibits the enigmatic tonal voices of ten artists who collectively incarnate the ethereal qualities of acoustic Jazz, focusing primarily on reinterpretations of pieces such as “Barfly,” “Time Will Tell,” and others. Particularly notable are the spirited contributions of such acclaimed artists as trombonist Chris Crenshaw (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra), trumpeter Harold V. Zinno, Jr. (Sammy Davis Jr.,), and bassist Phil Palombi (Maynard Ferguson), musicians whose artistic maturity lent a foundation of unwavering stability to the ensemble's collective efforts, while esteemed musicians Ganze Mueller Jonas, Mike Rivett, Peter Anderson, Paul Nedzela, Rick Stone, and Paul Odeh exhibited exceptional clarity and expressiveness. The musicians collectively forming The Corey Cook Ensemble represent some of America's greatest musicians, and its assemblage and performance could best be described as a dynamic approach to the art form of improvisational music, with emphasis on high levels of musicianship and professionalism.
