About Me
Pianist and composer Christopher Bakriges is a Detroit native who has led his own groups since the early 80s and has performed internationally since 1990. In the early 90’s he was invited to direct “JazzFest” on Northeast Public Radio after its station director heard his Critical Theory ensemble in concert with Bobby McFerrin and David Darling. Broadcast monthly from the WAMC-FM Studios in Albany, New York, “JazzFest” became the only live jazz radio program being aired at that time in the United States. Chris earned his doctorate from York University in Toronto where he studied with Oscar Peterson. His festival appearances the last two years have taken him to all over the country as well as to Europe.
