Chris Higgins

Bassist living in Portland, OR

About Me

I grew up in Eugene, Oregon. I started playing violin when I was five, but also learned guitar and trumpet, before finally discovering the bass. After enjoying two summer sessions at the Berklee College of Music during high school, I got a scholarship to study there at the college level. I earned a Bachelor of Music in Performance in 1990. My teachers included John Neves, Whit Browne, Herb Pomeroy, and Hal Crook, just to name a few. I was a house bass player at Wally's Cafe, a historic location, which featured a nightly jam session. In 1997, I moved to Barcelona, Spain. I played and recorded with fine Spanish jazz artists such as Perico Sambeat, Jorge Rossy, Albert Bover and Marc Miralta. and visiting American performers like Pat Metheny, Mark Turner, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Sonny Fortune, Benny Green, Sheila Jordan. In 2009, I completed an MFA in Music at the City College of New York, studying under John Patitucci. I now live and play in Portland, OR.
