Bobby Lee
Bobby Lee composer of Rual-Suburban-Inner City Jazz sound.
About Me
Bobby was born Robert D. Lee on January 2 1976 in Brownwood, a
small city in the heart of Texas. He grew up in church listening to the
bass, organ and piano players so Gospel was his first introduction to
music. Bobby's father and siblings all grew up playing music in their
parents church in Tyler and Fort Worth Texas. Coming from a family of
music seems to be the reason music has been apart of his life.
Bobby has been composing music since his early teens. Around the age
of 10 he took lessons in guitar for a short time. As Bobby recalls “I don't
think my mother had fun sitting outside in the car as 30 minute lessons
would turn into an hour or so just from jamming to old 60's tunes, my
teacher called me “Chuck Berry”! At 16 Bobby brought his first keyboard
and recorder and started composing his own style of instrumental jazz.
He also shared a love of music with a close friend Kenneth Byers whom
he nicknamed “Million Dollor Hands” for his musical talents. To this day
they still share the same love of music and musical ideas. At 18 he
started playing the bass guitar at his church filling in for the main player
who was no longer able due to illness but not knowing that this would be
his main role. It was at this time, while visiting his Aunt in Killeen Texas,
that Bobby meet a gentleman named Terry Smith who owned a
recording studio and was also a composer of instrumental melodies.
Through his correspondence with Mr. Smith, Bobby also put together his
own studio that he named Power of Music Studio and started Power of
Music Records. In late 1999 Bobby released his first CD Desire,Strength
& Ambitions. The album was first featured by Sharon Jaye on KAZI(The
Voice of Austin) in Austin Tx and The Phoenix Jazz network website
along with several other online stations. The song Ocean Love was the
first song featured. The album is still availible in many online
downloading site (amazon,itunes, etc...)
Following the release of his first CD (Desire,Strength & Ambitions),
Bobby released his second musical CD titled “2nd Phaze” in November
of 2007. At the time of this new release underway Bobby states “I
always want to touch people and music lovers alike with my music. “I
love making music because it puts you in a variety of moods and good
feelings and that's what each and every song on this project does”!
As of late, in May of 2010 in time for the Summer,Bobby has
released his fourth recorded project titled INDEED SOULFUL. The
album contains 14 all original songs ranging from smooth to
contemporary Soul-Funk jazz. Bobby wrote a song titled Miller's
Mantle a song inspired by one of his most favored bassist Marcus
Miller. The album starts off with as if it's telling a story beginning with the
intro Jazzy Twilight then gets things pumped up with Day Break
which is an all out bass funk track along with grooving drums
synth, piano and surprisingly insert of trumpet solo nearing the end. The
idea of the album along with it's title is based on the passage from the
Bible Gen 2:7 God breathing in Man and he became a living soul and is
therefore INDEED SOULFUL. Then there's the sensual songs of Just
A Touch,Here Waiting (and it's bonus track of) Here(still)Waiting and
Suite Groove to make the statement of care free atmosphere that
Bobby brings to this all around unique album. Moving outside the norm
of having his new CD reviewed by industries insiders only,Bobby offered
to have it reviewed by one of his followers from the internet radio site
jango.com. That full review can be read at
www.powerofmusicrecords.com/reviews. Margo Lovett of Jazz Fusion
Ministry was among the first radio programmer to feature songs from
INDEED SOULFUL said.......
14 tunes caused me to ask “can this project catch & hold my attention
from start to finish?..Bobby Lee’s choice and placement of instruments
on Indeed Soulful delivers a non intrusive but “want to listen” atmosphere
from start to finish! Top Gunning Interlude, Here Waiting and New Oasis,
all good examples of the various levels from which Bobby’s creative soul
speaks. This CD is Indeed Soulful!!
