About Me
My Jazz Story
I love jazz because it provides an example of how folk music - the music of the people; the music that first arose through the experiences of average Americans - can be refined through generations until it emerges as an art form. Once we recognize jazz as a musical art, we can see the same process at work in other musical traditions. To me, jazz is not about capturing any set of musical stylings, as much as it is about understanding the language and respecting the process through which jazz emerged. Thus my music draws on jazz, but also on traditional American fiddle music, bluegrass, and the classical mandolin tradition.
