My Jazz Story

I was first exposed to jazz at an early age. From jazz greats like Quincy Jones, Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, Raul de Souza and Tim Weisberg to Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Billie Holiday and flautist Bobby Humphrey. Yes, Jazz was then and still is now very prevalent in my household! I met Prince on a few occasions in the early 80's while living in Minnesota and performing with Flyte Tyme as lead vocalist and flautist. My advice to new listeners is to always remember this: "We do not hear sound only through our ears; we hear sounds through every pore of our body. It permeates the entire being, and according to its particular influence either slows or quickens the rhythm of the blood circulation; it either wakens or soothes the nervous system. It arouses us to greater passions or it calms us by bringing us peace. According to the sound and its influence a certain effect is produced. Sound becomes visible in the form of radiance. This shows that the same energy which goes into the form of sound before being visible is absorbed by the physical body. In that way the physical body recuperates and becomes charged with new magnetism." ~a revised quote.
