My Jazz Story

The best show I ever attended was Ornette Coleman at Jazz at Lincoln Center. He must have been in his late 70s. Blew my mind. The first jazz record I bought was either Monk's Dream or Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet. I was interested in jazz but had no idea where to start. I got lucky. My advice to new listeners is to be patient and keep an open mind. Start with Coltrane's Blue Train or Miles's Kind of Blue before diving in too deep.
