Mood Indigo

Albert Mangelsdorff
Duration: 5:03

Albert Mangelsdorff was one of the most accredited and innovative trombonists of modern jazz. He pioneered the use of a distinctive technique for playing multiphonics, producing more than one note simultaneously, even playing chords on the trombone by singing his breath through the horn. This version of "Mood Indigo" is from Albert's 1974 album, The Wide Point, with Palle Danielsson on bass and Elvin Jones on drums, a remarkable trio recording that sounds as fresh today as when it was first released. Albert's playing on this piece represents a milestone in trombone technique, as he plays and sings in three-part harmony.
