About the Album

A duet with Oud and Indian Tabla, the composition was written by Tomchess and is in the rather unique time signature of 13 hence the name. It also incorporates some 1/4-tone notes most notably the E 1/4-tone-flat and the main melody is based around the Near Eastern Maqam Saba. Mir Naqibul Islam is the Tabla player and helped significantly in refining the rhythm to match the melody. The Tabla rhythm is a modification of Indian rhythm Jaa Taal 13. There is some Oud and Tabla improvisation in the middle based around the Saba Maqam and the melody. I didn't set out to write the song in 13 but after having composed it I realized it was in 13. Fun to play and record!
