Rufus Reid is a thirty year veteran of the international jazz scene and and one of it's premiere bassists. He has over 300 recordings and myriad performances to his credit, with the lofty likes of Eddie Harris, Nancy Wilson, Thad Jones & Mel Lewis, Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz Jack Dejonnette, Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman, Joe Lovano Benny Green, Kenny Burrell, Kenny Barron, and Joe Henderson. He has three discs out under his own name, Perpetual Stroll, Seven Minds, and Corridor To The Limits. Since 1990, Rufus has been in partnership with drummer, Akira Tana in their quintet, TANAREID. To date they have made 6 recordings: Yours and Mine, Passing Thoughts, Rumour, Blue Motion, and Looking Forward. Their latest, Back To Front is available on Evidence Music. TANAREID continues to travel; performing and teaching around the world.

Rufus Reid is equally known as an exceptional educator as well, teaching clinics since 1971, and completing a twenty year tenure at William Paterson University in 1999. In 1997, The International Association of Jazz Educators awarded Rufus with the Humanitarian Award, and in November of 1999, their New Jersey Chapter named him Outstanding Educator of the year. Like the title of his famous book, Rufus Reid continues his journey as THE EVOLVING BASSIST.
