Guillermo E. Brown made his name as a free jazz drummer, but his interests also span a wide variety of music, dance, and musical theater. Brown was born in 1976 in New Haven, Connecticut and spent his childhood drenched in the sounds of the church and the world. Moving around the Northeast, he absorbed many flavors of music and music theater. With his first drumset, he began to explore the depth of the jazz tradition, as well as the emerging forms of hip-hop and electronica.

Brown recently joined powerhouse tenor titan David S. Ware's out jazz quartet, playing with the group on their two most recent recordings: Surrendered (Columbia) and Corridors & Parallels (AUM Fidelity). He has also joined Roy Campbell and Matthew Shipp on record, in addition to wide-ranging participation in music, dance, and musical theater events on the New York scene.

Brown's debut record as a leader (April 2002 release) is Soul at the Hands of the Machine (Thirsty Ear). This disc delves deeply into the huge variety of sounds that have inspired Brown's musical vision: free jazz, electronica, Latin jazz, and hip-hop (just to name a few). You'll find that his listening tastes run a wide gamut as well.
