Is there a more versatile guitar player on the scene today than Dave Fiuczynski? Any other six stringer who has played so well with such a spectrum of projects, please stand up! No other guitarist is equally comfortable or capable of stepping into technical fusion (in place of Allan Holdsworth with Gongzilla or in a power trio with Gary Willis and Simon Phillips), the deep deep funk (with Bernie Worrell or Ms. NdegeOcello), straight bop (with Mark Shim or Billy Hart), the downtown avant with (Hasidic New Wave or Josh Roseman) or a sweaty jam (with Burbridge and Medeski) than David. And as anyone who's heard him will agree, Fuze always sounds like Fuze. A look at his top ten may reveal some of the source materials for his ethnic-inventive, utterly original approach to the instrument.
Plus he's managed to keep a band together (the Screaming Headless Torsos) for what's getting to be a good long run, now. Fuze's latest new thing is the all instrumental Amandala, along with an economical re-release of the Torsos previously rare Japanese live cd. He also turns in stellar performances on new releases by Josh Roseman (Cherry) and Mike Clark [Conjunction]. Make sure to check out his latest offerings and itinerary at he and wife Lian's shining example of indie entrepreneurism, www.torsos.com.
