Since his appearance on the scene in 1991 as a member of Marc Johnson's "Right Brain Patrol", Ben Monder has continued to gig and record steadily, always bringing his particular brand of harmonic invention and adventure to the stage and studio. He's recorded three discs under his own name (Flux, Dust and Excavation), and two with futuristic vocalist Theo Bleckmann that are virtually co-led projects (last year's Origami and 1997's Slow Boat, which was issued by Songlines under under both names- Theo is, in turn, featured prominently on "Excavation"). You'll also find Ben currently with Paul Motian's Electric Bebop Band.

His recordings feature advanced compositional and improvisational concepts, which may be deduced from perusing his current listening list. Dig into these, as well as Ben's stuff, for the mix that just may make up jazz's future. And make sure to check out our interview at http://www.allaboutjazz.com/iviews/bmonder.htm.
