A pair of excellent quartet releases jump off the page in this edition of One Man's Jazz. Bassist Kenneth Jimenez, with Angelica Sanchez, Hery Paz and Gerald Cleaver, and saxophonist Jure Pukl with Joe Sanders, Peter Evans and Nasheet Waits, create some wonderful contemporary improvisation on their latest projects. NoBusiness Records has a winner in Visitation Of Spirits, a yet-to-be released live set by Roy Campbell's Pyramid Trio with William Parker and Zen Masuura. Saxophonist Ivo Perelman continues to mine the duo format with vibraphonist Matt Moran this time, with other new albums sampled come from Poland's Grzegorz Lesiak's Essence, free jazz vibraphonist Taiko Saito, experimental singer Ruiqi Wang from China, Daniel Carter, and François Carrier with one of his archived sessions with Tomasz Stańko. And there's a small tribute to the late Charles Gayle.
