Alexey Kruglov & Jaak Sooaar Trio: Karate

Se il karate è l'"arte della mano vuota," quest'ultimo CD registrato per Leo Records dal sassofonista russo Alexey Kruglov insieme al Jaak Sooaar Trio ha colto in pieno la profondità di quest'arte. I quarantasei minuti contenuti in Karate sono potenti ed energici, ma custodiscono spazi di vuoto che opportunamente, musica facendo, vanno riempiendosi.

Frutto di una lunga tournée Karate contiene solo parte del progetto che ha unito il sassofonista russo Kruglov al Jaak Sooaar Trio estone. La presente registrazione è stata, infatti, effettuata nel corso della tappa finale, un concerto tenuto al Tallinn jazz club "Theatre nr. 99". I concerti della tournée sono stati usati dal Jaak Sooaar Trio e da Kruglov per realizzare un progetto complesso che ha unito vari generi musicali (musica-teatro, rock, free puro, improvvisazione, poesia sonora tanto per citarne alcune) nel tipico stile di un certo (post-)dadaismo musicale russo contemporaneo. In questo Kruglov aveva già dato ottima prova di sé in Seal of Time.

Le cinque tracce di Karate risultano vibranti e potenti all'ascolto. Una bella la mescolanza di vibrazioni rockeggianti del Trio unite all'inquieto sassofono di Kruglov. Una dimensione impro sempre "tesa". Interessante.
