Recovering Your Articles

Note: there is no need for you to recover individual CD reviews, since we already have this information on file.

Follow this step-by-step process to recovering your articles cached at Google.com:

  • Go to http://www.google.com

  • Enter the following into the box: your name (as it appears in the article), the title of the article, and the artist's name. Then hit the GOOGLE SEARCH button.

Try this example: Fred Jung Fireside Chat With Randy Weston.

    Author's Name = Fred Jung
    CD/Article Title = Fireside Chat
    Artist Name = Randy Weston
  • We hope that your missing article is indexed on the first few pages. In our example, it's the first item listed.

  • If you click the main link, you'll get a "This Page Cannot Be Found" message. Instead, click the "Cached" link (next to the URL).

  • This will bring up the page as it looked when Google indexed it.

At this point it's best to download the file, and as a backup, bookmark the page as a favorite for future reference. To download the file, click FILE then SAVE AS. The HTML SOURCE option will give you the final source code.

We prefer that you use this final version of your article, since it has usually been modified by the editorial staff to include text edits, different formatting, and both text and graphic links.

Your can re-submit your article on the recently restored Article Submission form.

How to "View Source"

For Microsoft Internet Explorer Users

  • Click VIEW on the menu bar (after EDIT and before FAVORITES) Select SOURCE
  • This will show you the HTML source code that builds your page. It may take a few seconds to load, and it may look a bit ugly.
  • SELECT ALL (from EDIT on the menu bar) and PASTE it into your word processor to manipulate it more easily.
  • Scroll down and highlight the title and body of the article using your mouse. Extract the title and body of the article using COPY.
  • PASTE the contents into the appropriate box on the Article Submission form.

For Netscape Users

  • Click VIEW on the menu bar (after EDIT and before GO)
  • Select PAGE SOURCE
  • This will show you the HTML source code that builds your page. It may take a few seconds to load, and it may look a bit ugly.
  • SELECT ALL (from EDIT on the menu bar) and PASTE it into your word processor to manipulate it more easily.
  • Scroll down and highlight the title and body of the article using your mouse. Extract the title and body of the article using COPY.
  • PASTE the contents into the appropriate box on the Article Submission form.
