Submitting Articles & CD Reviews

  1. You will receive a confirmation email message when your article is submitted and when your article/CD review is activated. Activation time on any given article/CD review runs between 4-6 days, though sometimes it may take longer during high-traffic periods.

  2. You can edit your articles/reviews by clicking the EDIT THIS ARTICLE link at the bottom of your article pages. This link can also be found in the auto-confirmation message you receieve after submission.

  3. Enter at least one email address in the "email notification" box for each article/CD review. Upon activation, the system will send the contact person (label rep, publicist, artist, etc.) an email mentioning the title of the article, the author name and a link to the article.

  4. Italicize album titles and place song titles in "double quotes."

  5. Rate each CD you review, as objectively as possible. This information is for internal use only and will not be visible to readers.

  6. Not sure how to add cover art to a CD review? Click the icon to the right of the "URL for CD cover art" text box.

Basic HTML Formatting

Please learn these five basic HTML tags to properly format your piece. For articles, we ask that you look at a previously published example to know how your piece should look. We prep 8-10 articles daily, so your help adding formatting tags is a big time-saver and is much appreciated.

  • Use the paragraph tag <P> at the start of each new paragraph

  • Use the line break tag <BR> to skip to the next line

  • To italicize a word, use <I> and </I> (eg. <I>jazz</I>)

  • To hot link a URL: <A HREF=http://www.yoursite.com TARGET=_blank>Your Site</A>

  • To hot link an email address: <A HREF=mailto:joe@aol.com>joe@aol.com</A>

Site Numbers

  • We communicate AAJ's activity in terms of visitors (people who visit the site on a monthly basis). 951,000 readers visited AAJ in May 2006. We do not measure the site's popularity in terms of hits--it's a meaningless indicator. For instance, AAJ topped 34 million hits in October. For periodic updates see our traffic page.

  • AAJ publishes 200+ CD reviews per month, 100+ articles per month, and 300+ news items per month. We syndicate our news via RSS, AAJ Live Content and Google. We also have the most active jazz bulletin board, averaging well over 100 active members at any one time.
