Vision Festival 8 by Peter Gannushkin
Peter Gannushkin This photo exhibition is a testament to the vibrancy of the eighth Vision Festival in New York City. They are only photos but if you look carefully can't you almost hear the music... whispering...squeaking... blasting forth... the deep resonance of William Parker's bass... the heart racing call of Roy Campbell's trumpet... the precision of Masada String Trio? Can't you feel the gripping sincerity of Patricia Nicholson's movement...the peace of Lewis Barnes' rest... the joy of Jemeel Moondoc's laugh... and the freedom in Joe Maneri's release? The eighth Vision Festival was all these things. It was deep, touching, peaceful, chaotic, joyful, and free. This exhibit only skims the top of the Festival's six nights packed full of free jazz, avant-garde, experimental, improvisational music but we hope it offers a glimpse into its depth.
