Karlheinz Klüter was born 1935 in Iserlohn
(Germany), discovered jazz as radio listener and photography
as a hobby at the age of 16. He got a
technical education and worked till 1970 as civil-engineer in machinery building.
Then in 1971 he started his own business in Grafik & Design, self trained as autodidact and worked for more
then 12 years for the German Foreign Ministery developing Audio Visual Medias
Since 1956 when started to develop interest in jazz, he formed the first jazz club and concerts in his town. After
that organized regular jazz concerts with international masters. In the seventies he put all his energy into having
a real club with live jazz, that were the times when "Jazzclub Henkelmann" was born, Chick Corea, Gary
Burton, Elvin Jones and many more played here.
From 1970 on organizing a yearly New Jazz Meeting in the medieval castle in the Sauerland city Altena. But his
best idea ever was - to move it to one of the biggest caves in Europe, to Balve. He made it to real Jazz Festival
with all styles and including the newcomers as well. The cave could hold up to 3000 visitors, often sold out before,
because as an advertising professional he created a mailing list of 6000 visitor adresses. Beside that he recorded
and build up a small record company concentrating on musicians editions. 50 LP's were released. All beside the
Job. 10 happy, though stressy years. And the camera mostly was with him.
In 1983 another dream came true, he bought a boat, called it SATCHMO and sailed the Mediterranean.
Settled in Bodrum (Turkey) in 1993, doing a radio show about jazz and makes his living of web-design and selling
Blue Cruises.
