Swinging Camera by Karlheinz Fürst
Toward the end of the sixties, I worked as an amateur photographer. During this period I took pictures of several jazz concerts in Germany, especially the legendary JATP. I also had the opportunity to contribute pictures to the television show Jazz gehört und gesehen, produced by J.E. Berendt, a famous German writer and jazz promoter. I used only available light, in order to capture the atmosphere and the flow of the music, so these photos served less as documentation than as creative experimentation. Therefore they appeared at the time in photographic publications rather than other magazines. Many of these pictures remain in the archives of the Deutsches Jazzinstitut in Darmstadt. I feature several of my photos on my website, www.karlheinz-fuerst.de, which has sparked interest from all over the world.
